COMMON GROUND
ECOLOGY

CONSERVATION THAT PROFITS ALL

OUR MISSION

Our vision is to contribute to a Florida that finds common ground between the needs of the natural environment and the requirements of economically-sound land use. We believe in a balance between financial value and ecological need to support and protect what makes our state so special—our truly unique ecosystems.

SERVICES

Common Ground Ecology assists landowners and government agencies in planning and implementing ecological management strategies that balance the needs of wildlife and natural lands with land use demands. We utilize practical, science-based tools to survey and manage land to protect Florida's landscapes, native wildlife, and the communities that depend on these ecosystems.

Land Use Planning and Acquisition Support

We offer technical assistance to landowners and agencies to help them navigate and implement various programs, including Florida Forever, the Rural and Family Lands Protection Program, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's National Wildlife Refuge System, and the USDA NRCS easement and cost-share programs.

Endangered Species: Habitat Conservation and Permitting

We conduct surveys and develop biological assessments for a variety of endangered species, including Florida grasshopper sparrows, scrub-jays, Florida bonneted bats, and gopher tortoises. Our team of qualified experts specializes in all the necessary steps for effective species conservation. Whether your project impacts an endangered species or you are a landowner with endangered species on your property, we are here to help you comply with regulations and make the process easier.

Prescribed Fire and
Management Planning

Florida's ecosystems depend on fire to maintain balanced flora and fauna populations and to prevent wildfires. Our specialized team works with landowners and property managers to plan controlled burns to promote wildlife and human safety and control the spread of non-native invasive plants.

Training and Education

We offer a variety of authorized gopher tortoise agent trainings to ensure that students are up to date on the latest permitting processes and guidelines, and procedures for gopher tortoise marking, surveys, relocations, and excavations. No matter what you need, we have a course designed for you.
